CodeMeter Cloud: Ecosystem and First Steps

Share:

Cloud-based licensing gives software vendors an additional way to deliver secure entitlements without requiring a physical dongle or a license bound to a specific computer. Before introducing it, however, developers need to understand how cloud licenses fit into the existing CodeMeter ecosystem and how the different components work together.

This tutorial introduces CodeMeter Cloud and guides you through the first steps of creating and activating a cloud-based license. It explains the roles of CodeMeter License Central, CodeMeter License Portal, and CodeMeter Runtime within the overall workflow.

CodeMeter License Central acts as the back-office system for creating and managing licenses. CodeMeter License Portal provides the interface through which users can obtain and manage their entitlements. CodeMeter Runtime connects the protected application with the license stored in the cloud.

The video shows how to create a CmCloudContainer and activate a license in it. Once the process is complete, the user can access the license through the corresponding credentials, and the protected application can verify the entitlement through CodeMeter Runtime.

You will also see how CmCloudContainers complement the other CodeMeter license container types. Software vendors can use cloud-based licenses alongside hardware-based CmDongles and software-based CmActLicenses, selecting the most appropriate option for each product, customer, or deployment environment.

This introductory walkthrough gives developers and licensing administrators a practical overview of the CodeMeter Cloud architecture and activation process. It is a useful starting point for extending an existing CodeMeter implementation with cloud-based licensing while retaining a consistent workflow across all supported license containers.
