CodeMeter Basics – Activating a CodeMeter License with Context Files

Share:

CodeMeter licenses can be activated online, but there are also situations where a manual, file-based process is the better or only option. This is especially useful when the target computer is offline, located in a restricted network, or cannot connect directly to the software vendor’s activation system.

In this video, you will learn how to activate a CodeMeter license by exchanging context files between the end user and the software vendor. The process starts with the creation of a license request file, also known as a WibuCmRaC file or RaC. This file contains the information needed by the software vendor to create a matching license update.

After receiving the RaC file, the software vendor generates a license update file, also known as a WibuCmRaU file or RaU, and sends it back to the user. The user then imports the RaU file into CodeMeter Control Center to complete the activation.

The video walks you through the process step by step:

  • Create a license request file in CodeMeter Control Center
  • Send the RaC file to your software vendor
  • Receive the corresponding RaU update file
  • Import the update file to activate the license

This file-based workflow enables secure and reliable license activation even in environments without direct Internet access. It gives software vendors a controlled way to issue licenses while allowing users to activate protected software on the intended CmContainer.
