At electronica 2026, Wibu-Systems will join Infineon Technologies to demonstrate how established embedded security architectures can evolve toward a post-quantum future.

A Long-Standing Partnership in Embedded Security

The cooperation between Wibu-Systems and Infineon is built on many years of joint work in hardware-based security, embedded software protection, and research.

Infineon security technology is used across the CodeMeter portfolio, including hardware-based license containers and embedded security solutions. The two companies have also worked together on CodeMeter µEmbedded and participated in multiple collaborative research projects with academic institutions and other leading technology partners.

At electronica 2026, this long-standing relationship will take another step forward: toward securing CodeMeter-based communication with post-quantum cryptography.

From Today’s CodeMeter Infrastructure to Post-Quantum Security

A joint demonstrator at the Infineon booth will show how communication between CodeMeter License Central and an IoT endpoint can be protected against future attacks enabled by quantum computers.

The concept combines Wibu-Systems CodeMeter technology with a new generation of CmDongle incorporating an Infineon security chip with post-quantum cryptography capabilities.

The central idea is deliberately practical: Organizations already using CodeMeter should be able to move toward post-quantum security without redesigning their complete licensing infrastructure.

A regular update of the CodeMeter Runtime is intended to make the communication channel between CodeMeter License Central and the connected device post-quantum ready. Full end-to-end hardware-based protection is then designed to be completed with the future CmDongle Generation 4, equipped with a PQC-capable Infineon security chip.

Making the Transition Visible

The demonstrator translates this migration path into a physical, interactive experience.

Rather than presenting post-quantum cryptography as an abstract future technology, it shows how an existing software licensing and security infrastructure can evolve step by step: from current CodeMeter deployments to PQC-protected communication and, ultimately, hardware-backed end-to-end protection.

The underlying message is simple:

Post-quantum security should not require manufacturers to start again from scratch.

With crypto-agile software, upgradeable infrastructure, and future PQC-capable hardware, existing security architectures can be prepared for new cryptographic requirements while preserving established workflows and investments.

CodeMeter Security and Licensing in SD and microSD Form Factors

Wibu-Systems will also be present at the SD Association (SDA) booth C6.660, showcasing how CodeMeter brings software protection and licensing to products built around SD and microSD technologies.

With CmCard, Wibu-Systems offers its own hardware-based CodeMeter license container in an SD card form factor. At its core is an Infineon smart card chip, providing secure storage for licenses and cryptographic data, while additional flash memory can be used for data storage. This combines hardware-based CodeMeter security with a compact form factor suited to embedded and industrial applications.

CmReady extends the concept to selected industrial memory cards from certified partners. CmReady-certified cards are specifically designed and tested for compatibility with CodeMeter, allowing manufacturers to bind and store CmActLicenses directly on the removable medium. For companies already using such cards in their products, CmReady provides a particularly direct route for integrating CodeMeter protection and licensing into their existing hardware and software architecture.

Together, CmCard and CmReady demonstrate how the CodeMeter ecosystem can adapt to different product designs and security requirements while supporting protected software, flexible licensing models, and portable digital entitlements in SD and microSD-based applications.
