With the introduction of the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), the European Union has established binding cybersecurity requirements for all connected products placed on the European market. Any device or system containing “digital elements” – from consumer electronics and smart home appliances to highly complex industrial embedded systems – must now meet a minimum set of cybersecurity standards.

The CRA has been in force since the end of 2024. Its full implementation will unfold in stages and become mandatory for all applicable products by the end of 2027. For developers, project managers, and product owners of embedded systems, this poses a vital question: How can we proactively align our systems with the CRA requirements?

A Two-Day Deep Dive into CRA Readiness

The Cyber Resilience Act Summit, presented by Componeers in collaboration with the renowned German tech media Markt&Technik, offers the answers. This industry event delivers strategic guidance and technical insights tailored to organizations working in embedded systems and connected technologies.

Experts from industry and academia will cover critical aspects of CRA implementation, including:

  • Understanding and navigating CRA legal obligations
  • Security-by-design best practices for embedded sensors and industrial networks
  • Compliance mechanisms for CAN, RS485/Modbus, and KNX systems
  • CRA-conformant semiconductor and memory solutions
  • Threat modeling, penetration testing, and secure software development
  • CRA-readiness for open-source projects and automation tools
  • Effective recall processes and license-based control mechanisms
  • Checklists and blueprints for day-one compliance

The Role of Software Protection and Licensing in CRA Compliance

As digitalization accelerates across all sectors, cybersecurity becomes a cornerstone of sustainable innovation. Wibu-Systems recognizes that meeting CRA requirements goes far beyond patching vulnerabilities – it demands a structured, scalable, and proactive approach to securing software and managing digital assets.

Our flagship technology, CodeMeter, provides a robust platform to enforce software integrity, prevent unauthorized access, secure sensitive data, and enable compliant product lifecycle management. As a trusted player in software protection and licensing, we help vendors align their solutions with the CRA, from embedded firmware to cloud-delivered services.

Join Our Talk: A Blueprint for Secure Digital Products

October 14, 2025 | 2:25 PM | Session 2.2: CRA Software Requirements
Speaker: Stefan Bamberg, Director Sales and Key Account Management, WIBU-SYSTEMS AG
Title: Certified Security – Product Security in Focus

In this session, Stefan Bamberg explores how manufacturers can meet the CRA’s core obligations through secure-by-design principles, technical risk mitigation, and transparent documentation practices. Learn how software protection and licensing technologies not only reduce exposure to cyber threats but also serve as critical enablers of CRA compliance.

Our Contribution: Enabling CRA Compliance with CodeMeter

  • Integrity Protection:
CodeMeter Protection Suite includes encryption, obfuscation, and anti-tampering techniques that shield software and data from manipulation, ensuring product safety and quality.
  • Access Control & Authentication:
Through secure cryptographic operations and certificate-based identity verification, CodeMeter License Containers (dongles or CmCloudContainers) block unauthorized access and support secure system integration.
  • Data Encryption & Confidentiality:
Sensitive user or configuration data is safeguarded using modern cryptographic standards with secrets securely stored in certified hardware.
  • Recall Management & Lifecycle Control:
Subscription-based licensing allows for the deactivation of non-compliant software, while CodeMeter License Central enables precise tracking of delivered versions for rapid response in case of necessary corrective actions.
  • Data Minimization:
Designed to support GDPR and CRA principles, our solutions reduce data redundancy and simplify license management across embedded and enterprise environments.

Be CRA-Ready – From First Line of Code to Final Product

The CRA is not just another regulation – it's a paradigm shift in how we build and maintain trust in the digital economy. At Wibu-Systems, we believe security should be embedded at every level, from source code to supply chain. Our technology is designed to help you build CRA-compliant products that are secure, resilient, and future-ready.
