The Smart Industry Conference was created to accelerate the ongoing digital transformation of manufacturing and related industries, as represented by the convergence of information and operational technologies and industry-wide movements such as the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), Industrie 4.0 and big data analytics.
Launched in 2015, the conference draws more than 250 manufacturing innovators, leaders and technology experts each year. Their mission is to facilitate knowledge exchange, explore emerging best practices and spur business development among the global community poised to turn this vision of the next industrial revolution into reality.
Panel Discussion Are We More Cybersecure Today, or Just Fooling Ourselves? September 19, 2017, 3:45 – 4:45 pm
A recent survey of manufacturing executives by the MPI Group indicated that the majority (63%) felt the application of smart devices and/or embedded intelligence in plants and processes had somewhat or significantly improved the security of IT systems and data. A further 30% indicated "no change" and only 7% indicated "somewhat weakened security." So, despite cybersecurity being cited as among the most significant roadblocks to IIoT implementations, the majority of survey respondents ultimately saw improvements in cybersecurity instead. At the same time, recent cyberattacks such as WannaCry are more virulent than ever, and have elevated the perceived threat level across industry. So where do we really stand? And are things improving?
Marcellus Buchheit, President and CEO of Wibu-Systems USA, will participate in a panel discussion of the trends and developments, both positive and negative, and will share insights on how to benefit from the latest technology advances while managing the risks. Marcellus will be joined by Eric Byres, Principal, ICS Secure, and Marty Martin, Director, Control System Technology, Air Liquide to lead the panel discussion.
